Auto-Tune Parody Courtesy of B.O.B.

With T-Pain, Lil' Wayne and Kanye dominating the charts, we all have heard the auto-tune effect used on many occasions. And although I really like Kanye's new album, we can all agree that the use of auto-tune has gotten a little out of hand. Up and coming artist B.O.B. put what we were all thinking into song with the parody above. Most of you might be scratching your heads as to who B.O.B. is, but I saw him perform on the Rock the Bells side stage a couple months ago and came away very impressed. He was named one of the Top 10 Freshman of 2009 (along with Wale) by XXL and is backed by T.I.'s label. Check after the jump for a song from him you might have heard before.

Great parody.

Less pushed but (in my opinion) better BOB songs that "Haters" are "Generation Lost" and "Mellow Fellow"

Hate! Hate! Hate!

Auto tune has pushed hip hop passed the final barrier into the banausic world of pop music.

Yea I like those too, and I think they are a more accurate representation of where he is coming from, but the "Haterz" song was the only with a video....and its always good to dumb out sometimes.

Lots to say:

T-Pain is a broke ass Nate Dogg. I haven't heard him do a single song that's worth a damn that isn't him singing the hook for someone more talented. I'm hatin'.

Moving on: There was an article about Auto-Tune in the Post last weekend, and the list of essential Auto-Tune songs did not include "One More Time" by Daft Punk. This would be like omitting Pele from your list of all time great players.

As for 808s & Heartbreak, I'm surprised how little it's done for me. I am a huge advocate for people who are both brilliant and popular to answer to the brilliance first and the charts second. Take some chances, experiment, do something a little weird. Andre 3000 could make an album that makes The Love Below look by-the-book, and I'd probably bust a nut. 808s, unfortunately, just didn't hit the heights of any of Kanye's previous albums, and I had really high hopes. "Love Lockdown" is good, and "See You In My Nightmares" might be even better. After that, though, it's all B-/C+ material to me. Like I said, I think it's OK, but since when is "OK" good enough for Kanye?

Then again, I could just not be in a hiphop/R&B kind of mood. I've been more about electronic stuff for awhile now. 808s could be one of those that has to grow on you.

Finally, actually on topic, I saw that XXL cover yesterday but didn't have time to read it (got dragged in by World Soccer, a magazine I loved back in the day but is now utterly useless thanks to the Internet). The video here is pretty good, especially the water bottle moment. I'm going to have to look out for more of his stuff.
